"Renewing our Calling" is an intentional process of discernment and re-visioning that we have embarked on as a church family. Through this process of prayer, conversation, dreaming, study, and reflection, we hope to discern more clearly what God is calling us to do and to be at this time in our community, city, and world and to clarify what we need to keep, adapt, let go of, and cultivate in order to fully live into that renewed sense of calling.
The process will involves the entire congregation, is guided by a lead team, and is undergirded by a prayer team.
The congregation will gather five times, on the last Sunday of each month from February through June 2017 immediately following worship (lunch will be provided) in the fellowship hall. At each of these gatherings we will explore different topics and activities that will help us to clarify our own gifts as a congregation and how God might be calling us to put them to use for God’s kingdom. The dates and topics for those gatherings are as follows:
February 26th—Vital Experiences from our Past
March 26th—Present Community Needs and Opportunities
April 30th—Asset Mapping
May 28th—Ideal Church
June 25th—Final Report from Lead Team
Alongside these congregational gatherings, there is a lead team guiding the process and assimilating the input from the congregation. They are also doing additional studies and activities and communicating the results of those to the congregation through the monthly newsletter. Check there each month for great information.
Undergirding all of this important work is the most important work of all, prayer. We have assembled a prayer team of those who are willing to commit to pray for this process, for the vitality of our church and our witness in the world, and for those who are leading this journey. If you are interested in serving on this prayer team, you may join at anytime by letting the pastor know.
It is our fervent prayer that this might not only be a time of discernment and clarity but also a time of renewal and vitality as we discern God’s calling and discover the concrete ways that we may live into that calling for the sake of God’s great glory and for the sake of our fellow humanity so much in need of the grace and love we have known through Jesus Christ our Lord.
